- Then I want to be reminded that while we boost together with a very friendly country, China, we celebrate our friendship and we celebrate the plurality of this country. As you see, the celebration has adequate participation from all communities and all cultures and all regions in the country because we want to ensure that Malaysia remains peaceful and accept the principle, the policy inclusivity to make sure that everyone single Malaysian have a place and proud of this country.
- During the Song Dynasty we have the poet Lu You, and we can render the verse:
Shan Chong Shui Fu
Yi Wu Lu,
Liu An Hua Ming
You Yi Chun
My Chinese friends are very kind, they know the pronunciation is poor, but they understand.
- Meaning, “After traversing mountains and rivers that seemed endless, we’ve come to a bright village amid the shade of willows and flowers.”
- There’s a rough and perhaps not very lyrical translation, but I think it captures something of the spirit of our relationship with China.
- We have indeed chosen to move beyond all the uncertainties to embrace a future on a thriving partnership and shared goals. I remember in my conversations with President Xi Jinping, we exchange not only issues of economic, relations, trade and investments. They need to secure peace and to build this friendship based on trust. But one very important and particularly unique feature in this policy and vision and espoused by President Xi Jinping is the issue of civilization.
- And I have said to him personally and to the public, very rarely do you have leaders with a vision not only to ensure that our economic fundamentals are strong, the country must be peaceful and stable, but there is a vision to respect cultures and differences and to honour the true meaning of civilization and the need for civilizational dialogue.
- So, there are festivities, as you know, that is celebrated by various communities here. And I am also delighted to say that we all embrace those and accept them as part of our Malaysian culture.
- We highlight for example, tonight the Encore Malacca’s projection mapping and lighting show and in China, this is known as the Spring Festival or Spring Carnival. And together with Penang, they have in Malacca for example, the first Xiaohongshu local event. That means traditional Chinese food, calligraphy, culture and the arts. So, as you see and we will continue to see cultural performances in a situation where you rejoice, relax, appreciate one another, appreciate the other culture that is sometimes not known or alien to us.
- This phenomenon would be meaningful not only in terms of cultural and our survival, but it means that we are ready to welcome our friends from overseas. And I thank the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and an Ambassador because they are also helping to promote tourism not only to Malaysia as many Malaysians are also going to China but because China has a bigger population, so we expect bigger numbers here and we have to thank YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, we have now broken the record in terms of tourist arrival particularly from China.
- As you know in May, Insya-Allah, we are also having the first ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Gulf countries together and we’re pleased to announce that we will also be participated plus China and possibility with the consensus, we’re inviting into some other countries. But the key component will remain Gulf or the GCC hosted by ASEAN with China as main partner in the region because I think we need to promote better understanding of our neighbours whilst continuing to engage and enhance relations with the United States and I was in European Union with EU President, Belgium’s Prime Minister, Netherlands’ Prime Minister, the UK’s Prime Minister and a number of other such as King of Belgium, for example, other than exchanges with other leaders to ensure that Malaysia retains our centrality in terms of our foreign policy position, at the same time engaged aggressively with all countries.
Terima kasih.
Xie Xie Ge Wei (Terima kasih kepada semua hadirin).
