PRIME MINISTER

AT

GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR ECRL GOMBAK INTEGRATED TERMINAL STATION

19th JUNE 2024 (WEDNESDAY)

ECRL GOMBAK INTEGRATED TERMINAL STATION,

KUALA LUMPUR

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh dan Salam Sejahtera.

Terima kasih, Ge wei lai Da jia hao.

  1. Hari ini adalah satu penghormatan kerana sahabat kita, negarawan, His Excellency Lee Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China bersama kita dan Cheng Long, State Councillor bersama dengan Anthony Loke dan Menteri-Menteri yang telah berusaha menyelenggara program ini buat sekian lama.

His Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,

  1. On this brief note, I must express again my profound thanks to my dear friend Premier Li Qiang, who has been here and who have been very supportive of our endeavour. Through him, I express our profound thanks and appreciation to President Xi Jinping, who has not only followed through the progress of ECRL, but also as I mentioned this in every encounter that we have as a showcase of how Malaysia and China could collaborate together in enhancing our no liberal relations, but to prepare the economy to a better position and to help the more underdeveloped areas and less developed areas in the East Coast.
  1. So that’s why I’ve been stressing the importance of noticing this as a major infrastructure project. But our fellow Ministers here is well aware that we want to ensure that with this project, the ecosystem, the advantages and economic activities can further be enhanced.
  1. Other issue that has been raised is the issue of operations and maintenance. The Chief Secretary, Tan Sri Zuki met the CCCC and MRL yesterday to focus on the need to proceed and start planning on the issue of operations and maintenance. One of the major flaws of these huge mega projects is the need to ensure that maintenance of these gigantic projects is done in an efficient manner to not disrupt the progress.
  1. So, I am pleased that both CCCC and MRL has also been focusing on this. May I also thank them for their efforts in training, in transferring technology and giving the opportunity for local players to be exposed to new technology and upskill their capabilities. Again, thanks to all the professionals, their engineers, the technicians both from China and Malaysia. We leaders can plan, craft and decide on the policy, but I’m pleased that we have professionals, committed technocrats and workers like you. You have shown that we can do it more effectively and we can do it successfully. Not only according to time, but we are now accelerating the pace to complete this project well earlier than what was initially projected. So, thank you very much.
  1. I must say that we have had extensive discussions covering numerous issues, trade, investments, infrastructure, culture, education, tourism, and I think at the rate we are going this comprehensive strategic partnership with China is something that we applaud and will be a showcase to how Malaysia and China could be great collaborators in economic fields and all fields of human development.
  1. I think I need to reiterate again the need to express my profound appreciation to this visit, which will be considered a major visit, an important milestone in the working relations between Malaysia and China.

Xie Xie Gewei.
